Artist's Comments

Finally I made it. The story of this work is long :XD: I started it 3 times. First time I didn't like the way I was realizing it, so I deleted everything and started it again. The second time it seemed to be quite good... But Photoshop crashed and I never saved it. So I lost everything!! Terrible! >.<
At this point I was near to renounce... =.= But I started it again for the third time... And finally I did it! And I'm quite satisfied of the result!!

What do you think about it?!?!? :D
Comments, critiques and suggestions are very very welcome! =D

Sincerely I don't know how many hours... XD I suppose, without restarting so many times, maybe... 10-12 hours.
As always made on Photoshop with Wacom Tablet. No references.

They're Kyed and Ria, my original characters, and this scene is from one of the last chapter of the fantasy history I'm writing.
Here they're close in some burrows, chased by sanguinary creature. They don't have many opportunities to succeed. The creatures are too many powerful. Maybe the only chance they could have is Ria's sorcery... But there's so little time...

when i first saw Last Chance i couldn't help but think: there's an image where the artist's intention was good, but the result not really that close.

to begin with, the two characters are in a good position, Kyed actually looks like he's pulling Ria closer to him and their expressions are believable (him, trying to be fierce and protective, while she is scared and insecure). the folds and the shading on the characters' faces are also pretty accurate, and i really like the way you did Ria's hair. very nice technique used for drawing her hands as well, you understood the fact that they have a sort of transparency about them, and that shows in the way her fingers look when opposed to the bright light of the stone around her neck.

what i really disapprove of is not using a reference image. i guess it would have been difficult to find one with two characters staying in that position, but i'm sure there are plenty of photos of guys holding swords just like Kyed is. that helps a lot in understanding how human anatomy works and it will give your drawing that realistic look you have been trying to achieve
also, concerning realism, there's one important thing you must always keep in mind when coloring: warm colors have cold shadows, while cold colors have warm shadows. highlights and shadows use complementary colors. for example, instead of those darker shades of pink and brown you used for Ria's face (for example), you could have used some blues or purples mixed into that.

i know it sounds complicated and i'm not suggesting a complete make-over. instead, try to keep these tips in mind and follow them, they will improve your later drawings :D

I'm following the story of Piccola-Ria for a couple of months through her drawings and it makes me want to read the story badly (unfortunately I don't understand Italian but it does make me want to learn).
I can easily imagine the story thanks to the drawings she puts up and it makes my mind wonder and dream of the adventures of Ria, the main character.
This piece is really powerful: the two characters show strong expressions on their faces and with body language.
The colors are perfectly matched: pale for Ria and dark for Kyed; the sensitivity and the strength.
The hand of Kyed on Ria arm is kind of romantic and the hands of Ria around her necklace make us wonder what'll happen next...
I also love Piccola-Ria's drawing skills: her characters are always very well depicted and detailed.
Well done Cristiana

oh...I wish I could speak italian...

Then again, I could always use an online translator program. But they always mess up the grammar. Oh well.

You seem pretty good in English to me! I'm from the U.S and we're having a fluent conversation.

Anyway, I'm sure your story is great, if the illustrations are any hint.
